Stuff for School

TCH, this is your fault. But I'm doing another one, and I decided to add the pictures first this time. Much easier.


This is the board for my Honors Project Proposal Poster session. I wanted it to look like a bulletin board. The handprints and school bus stickers are not for any reason except that I had blank space to fill.

This was for FPA 300, which is Art in the Classroom. As you can see, this is a Jeopardy board. The topics are attached with velcro, so they can be changed. I think this is the only thing we made in this class that's actually going to be useful in a classroom. I really like the background though.

This was my artist board for FPA 300. I was still working on it an hour before class. I really liked it, but it has fallen apart. I love the background though.

This was my reading fair board for ED 362, and I did The Giving Tree. I used a projector and a die cut machine for most of it; the only thing I free-handed was the ground and the top of the tree (not the branch reaching down).

This was my book for ED 362 which I had to write and illustrate. It's about a girl named Lucy who loves to go to her grandparents' farm to see the baby animals.

Alright, that's it, I'm done. That is the extent of all my craftiness (or lack thereof).

Stuff I have done

I know it's been a while. Almost a month, but I'm a pretty boring person. There is really nothing that fun or interesting going on in my life. One of my good friends from the ED program, TCH, fussed at me yesterday when she visisted my apartment b/c I have not updated my blog in a while. She also showed me hers, and may I just say, Dang! She puts pictures up of her artsy projects and she makes me feel like a 5 year old doing finger paints. I knew I wasn't very good, but she is awesome! Anyway, it has me in a crafty mood, so I'm going to put up pics of things I have done in the past (some for school). You will have to forgive most of them, my camera has been broken since January when I dropped it in the snow, so most of the pics are from my phone. Now I just have to remember how. Oh, the button up top. How's that for stream of conciousness?

This was my first real attempt at being creative. I cut pictures and things from magazines and an old art textbook that my friend couldn't sell back and modge-podged them to a canvas I had painted light green. I used white, shimmery fabric paint to write my name across it. I love it. I wish the picture quality was better, but this was taken with my phone. I will try to get better ones up when I get my camera fixed.

This is my second artsy attempt. This is a teal table from wal-mart that cost $15. They had them in the dorm essentials section (that I always spend too much money in - oh and really cool - it came practically assembled you just screw the legs in by hand) last year. I bought it b/c I loved the color and I needed a table, but then when I got done w/ the above canvas, I had left over pictures. So I found a few more and did this table. Ta-da! I love it too! Oh, and all the things I have modge-podged so far have my first and middle name on them.

I did something a little different on this one, obviously. I don't like it nearly as much. It's too plain. But I love the saying.

Different again here. I put my favorite scripture on here and tried to do curly-cues, but I don't like them. I like this one better than the one above it, but still not my favorite. For you non-Mormons out there, feel free to ask about the scripture if you don't know.

This is my dresser that my aunt gave me when I got my apartment. When I got it, it needed a new coat of paint and was just plain white. I repainted and added different colors to the handles (each one is different and I'm not sure how I feel about it - it looks like one from a little kid set) and modge-podged the top. Also love this one! I had to clear it off (and the top of the table) to take the pictures.

I have another modge-podge project in mind, but I don't know what to put it on. I got a visitors guide to Columbus and cut out all the pictures in it because I love all the old houses and things here. I need another table or something I guess. Okay, that's all I'm putting on this post. Messing w/ pictures takes forever, so I will put things from school on a different post, which I may possibly do later today. Bye!

yay for figuring things out!

So I was completely jealous of all these cute blogs I saw and had no clue how to get a pretty background, but I asked my friend Nicole and she told me and TA-DA!!!! My page is pretty!! I'm totally excited! Plus, I got to waste a lot of time doing it! I really need to be working on my final project for my online history class, which actually probably wouldn't take me that long if I could just sit down and do it, but I'm waiting on my professor to email me back and give me some advice on what I'm trying to write about. Any other day she would have gotten back to me within an hour or two, but today I've been waiting 6. Oh yeah. I could just about be done with the dern thing by now.
I took one final today and it was super easy. It took me all of 5 minutes; it was just 25 multiple choice questions and I had studied adequately. I made a 92 (hooray for online finals that get graded quickly!), which could be better, but it's an A. I have this final project due Monday...yikes. Then Tuesday I have my other history final and my American Lit 2 final...I guess I should have been studying for those the last 6 hours. I really don't think that they will be too bad though. However, Wednesday I have my oh so fun World Lit 2 final, and it is going to be killer. We have 5 essay questions!! 5!!!! That's ridiculous!! And it's on top of character and quote identification. Now, I wouldn't be quite so up-in-arms if the man had given us an adequate study guide that had a list of things that would be on the final. But no, we have a list of questions that are all along the lines of, "What authors that we've studied this semester celebrate science? Which criticize it?" Now really, how do you expect us to write 5 essays in 3 hours without at least telling us ahead of time what we need to prepare to write about?? I mean, at least give us a least of possible essay topics. Something. Anything to help us out a little. This man is not getting a good review, I will put it like that. Yay finals! But after this summer (when I will be taking 7 hours both mini-terms) I will never have to take finals again. Or at least, I don't think we have finals for blocking and student teaching.
This past weekend, L. Tom Perry of the 12 Apostles came to Birmingham and had a fireside for the YSA!!! It was so awesome and I was so lucky to get to go!! I can't even begin to describe how awesome it was, but I got to shake his hand!!! I was ecstactic the whole way home; even getting lost didn't dampen my mood.
I should really go do laundry and try to get stuff done. Hooray for being productive.

I miss London!!

I know I already posted today...but I just wanted to share. I think London may very possibly be one of my favorite places on Earth. Of course, it's the only place outside of the US that I've ever been to. I studied abroad there for a month in the Summer of 2007, and I am dying to go back! Of course, when I was there, I was so homesick after about 2 weeks that I couldn't stand it. And since we were only there for a month, there were a ton of things we didn't get to do or see. Somebody raise a lot of money over the next year and send me there as well as Ireland and Scotland for my graduation present. Please? Anyways, a few favorite pics from the first 2 weeks or so in London.

confessions of a photo addict

I love pictures. I love taking pictures, I love looking at pictures, I love finding random cute pictures online. I love love love artsy pictures. I would love to be able to take them myself, but my ocd often overpowers my creativity. I document my life in pictures, and I often take random shots and then have no clue why I took them. My camera has been broken since it snowed last

month, and it's killing me. I really love just taking pictures of random things that interest me or make me laugh or make me happy inside. I love to take pictures of people...especially of those I love. All my pictures are gone off my computer since I had to reformat it, and I'm afraid I may never get some of them back. I really need an external hard drive. For instance...some pictures from the last few months that make me happy.

This cute puppy cupcake cost me $.75 at the culinary club fundraiser, but it was totally worth it. Everything on it was handmade by the culinary kids.

This is the sign that my dad left on the door of my new apartment. We moved it inside and let every guy who happens to come in laugh at it. Though if they had met my daddy they might not be laughing...he's a scary feller I'm told.

oh what a (boring) life I lead...

So I haven't posted on here in about 2 months. I'm just not that interesting. I can't imagine why someone would be interested in reading about my life. I go to school, I work (though I'm now officially off work until next semester, so I have to find a new job for the summer), and I teach primary at church (actually, I'm a counselor, but it's a branch, so what can you do?). That's really it. For instance, this week, I had a paper due Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and today, as well as teaching an 8th grade math lesson Monday, Wednesday, and today. I also have a big project due for my education class. It was due Tuesday, but because my cooperating teacher didn't let me teach my lessons until this week, I got an extension on it. I'm turning it in sometime today. When I finish anyways. Also due today is the FINAL DRAFT for my proposal for my Honors Research Project. Yikes! Not done with it either, and we see what I'm doing instead. Also during this week when I have been trying to write papers, I have been researching dog breeds, because I got it into my head a few weeks ago that I want a Scottish terrior. I can't have pets in my apartment that I'm in now, and my parents won't let me get "a little yippy dog that has to stay in the house" that would actually have to stay at the house, so I'm hoping for a graduation/slash birthday present next year. However, I have now expanded my list. On top of the dog I already have, Bear, who is a border collie/australian shephard mix (and I don't know that my parents are actually going to let me take him when I move - my mom gets pretty attached), I want a Scottie, an Irish terrior, and an Old English sheep dog. Oh yes. I'm just random like that. Yes, maybe even incredibly random. That's okay. I like it. Oh, another little very random tidbit...an rm friend of mine taught me my name in German. It's Savanne McBesen. Another rm friend taught me my name in Japanese, but I have no clue how to put that on here. I guess that's all. I better go do some work now I guess.
